Ira Smith, a Florida native, has grown many varieties of tropical fruit trees over three decades, and is a Past President of the Palm Beach Rare Fruit Council. Ira held the attention of our 85 guests for almost an hour and lingered long after his allotted time to answer additional questions. His assistant in this endeavor, his wife, Paula Smith, and expert tropical fruit expert in her own right, demonstrated samples of several varieties of unusual fruit.

Ira Smith talks about a Jaboticaba fruit.

Beautiful weather brought a large audience out for the lecture.

Smith talks about best varieties of plants for Florida.

As is the custom at TRBG on Plant Sale Day, three prizes were awarded to attendees of the lectures. Pictured below are our local winners.

Don Jaked was presented with a Baby Sun Rose.

Patty Beonde was happy with her prize Verbena.

Leona Etting, left with an unusual Sea Urchin Sedum.
