Bamboo, bamboo everywhere!!!!!!!

Saturday, November 15, found bamboo lovers from three counties gathered in great anticipation for the "First Bamboo Lecture" ever to be held at Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens.  Our guest speakers, Chip Barney and Devon Robinson, co-owners of New Shoots Bamboo Nursery  held our audience spellbound as they discussed the ins-and-outs of growing bamboo.  These young men are so enthusiastic about their plants that this author,  who is not a bamboo lover, is now looking for a place to put one in her yard.  They brought small, 15 gallon-sized plants to huge 45 gallon size.  Different varieties were shown and each was thoroughly discussed as to full size, water needs, fertilizer and the best location.  All in all, it was a great time and we all walked away, or pulled out plants in our carts, with much more knowledge and love for this fastest growing of all plants.

Chip Barney and Devon Robinson share their knowledge.

Chip Barney, hidden in the bamboo, talks about water needs.

Devon Robinson answers questions about this bamboo.

It was obvious that these young men love their jobs!

Once again all seats were filled and it was SRO at TRBG.

Jackie Pakonis was a happy winner of bamboo tree.

Carol Wentzel cannot wait to get home and put her bamboo in the ground.

Richard Bancroft is very pleased with his prize bamboo.
